Temples of Philae, Egypt - 2018. The Philae temple complex was originally located on an island that was inundated by the construction of the Aswan Low Dam in 1902. The temple was relocated to its current location on Agilkia Island in the 1960s through a joint effort between the Egyptian government and UNESCO. This sacred site was venerated from the Pharaonic era up to the Greek, Roman, and Byzantine periods with each ruler adding their own stamp onto the stones here. The Temple was dedicated to the goddess Isis, the wife of Osiris and mother of Horus and originally constructed in the reign of Nectanebo I during 380-362 BC. Other buildings date from the Ptolemaic Kingdom 282-145 BC.
